"Our Family Serving Your Family" The Ashley Clinic has been caring for the health of Southeast Kansas for over 70 years! It initially began in 1938 when Dr. Samuel Ashley and his son Dr. George "Ed" Ashley established a practice in the Barns Building above the former Jack's Jewelry Store in Chanute and later moved it to 211 West Main Street. A second son, Dr. Glen Ashley, joined the family practice in 1947 after serving as a physician in World War II. In 1952, Dr. Don Abbuehl, a general surgeon, joined the clinic, expanding the medical specialties offered to area residents. Additionally, Dr. Abbuehl was the first board-certified surgeon in the area, which helped the new hospital in Chanute to obtain accreditation by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospitals. The quality and reputation of the clinic continued to attract physicians to southeast Kansas such as Drs. Donald Ray, Albert Kihm and Earl Gehrt. Today the Ashley Clinic stands at 505 South Plummer, Chanute, and has grown into a thriving practice that includes satellite locations in Humboldt, Yates Center, Erie and Iola. The clinic also sponsors a surgical outreach clinic in Neodesha and Burlington, nd a urological outreach clinic in Iola and Neodesha and an orthopedic outreach clinic in Iola. The Ashley Clinic specializes in quality healthcare for the entire family. The clinic has 15 providers covering the fields of pediatrics, general surgery, urology, family practice, orthopedic surgery, and diabetic counseling and education to better serve the communities' needs. The Ashley Clinic offers a full spectrum of care with a full range of family medicine including obstetrics; physical exams and sports physicals; on-site laboratory, digital x-ray and CT services; on-site EKG testing and bone density studies; immunizations, minor surgery; KAN-Be-Healthy screenings, wellness and preventative medicine exams; osteopathic manipulations; physical therapy education and referrals; diabetic education and counseling; an outreach cancer center; and two convenient pharmacy locations in Chanute and Humboldt.
